Together with the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, we are preparing the project Scientists in the Vortex of Musical Passion (2025); Nature through the Eyes of Science and Art (2026).
The main content of the project is the preparation and realization of two exhibitions focused on the phenomenon of the interconnection between scientific activity and creative artistic activity. The themes of the exhibitions will be conveniently linked to the central thematic line of the national music festival Smetana Litomyšl for 2025 and 2026, which is represented in a broad sense by the words passion and nature. The aim of the first of the exhibitions, which will take place in 2025 under the title Science in the Whirlwind of Musical Passion, is to present Czech scientists in the changes of 19th century society, 20. and the 21st century, whose relationship to music went far beyond the boundaries of simple liking. Many of them have been oscillating between a scientific career and a career as a professional composer or performer since their student years. Although they preferred science in their education and professional career, music remained so important to them that they devoted themselves to it not only on a hobby level, but often also on a semi-professional to professional level. The exhibition will highlight not only the unusual, interesting and inspiring fates of selected Czech scientists and their extraordinary relationship to music, but also the often unexpected interconnectedness of various scientific disciplines with music and musical systems and their conscious and unintentional mutual influence.
