Vincenc Beneš belonged to the founding generation of Czech Modern art, which reflected the new artistic trends emerging from France – Fauvism and Cubism. The painting Still Life with Wine is an example of the artist’s lifelong interest in French Modern painting. Still life paintings, together with landscape scenes, were among his favourite motifs. He was capable of varying these motifs through his self-assured, expressive style, and finding endless possibilities for varying their colour and shape. The scene depicts the painter’s studio with the radiant diversity, evident in the artist’s work almost from the beginning of his artistic career and accompanying him throughout his life.
