Rudolf Kremlička, 1886-1932
Dancer, around 1930
Tempera on paper
The painter Rudolf Kremlička was one of the great figures of Czech art of the first half of the twentieth century. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, where he was strongly influenced by the work of Antonín Slavíček and Hanuš Schwaiger. His artistic work changed over time, but he never leaned towards any specific artistic trend. Throughout his whole life he developed his very distinctive style, mainly through his paintings of landscapes and female figures. The tempera painting Dancer falls precisely into this category. It is characteristic in its relaxed execution, inspired by the works of the French Impressionists.
